Where this rule comes from
The Council's own entry regulations: a minimum of eight and a maximum of nine subjects. English Language and General Mathematics are the core subjects for the 2026-2027 examinations; candidates select six or seven others from the Science, Humanities, Business and Trade groups. (Citizenship and Heritage Studies and Digital Technologies are new subjects and are not examined until 2028.)
